How to Listen
When you are ready to share your emotions or thoughts with someone, how does it feel when after the first words leave your mouth, this person looks at you, leans forward, puts down any work or books that they are engaged in, and gives you their undivided attention?
Does this make you feel like sharing your heart? Does this make you feel safe enough to share what you need to no matter how difficult the topic might be? Would you like to share this sort of listening with those you love?
Listening is an art. Listening is a gift that you can give those you love. When you listen to the information others are sharing with you, you give them the opportunity to share more honestly and clearly.
I shared my tips about how to listen in a recent blog post that I wrote for Sivana Spirit.
Here are my core tips about how to cultivate masterful listening skills.
- Listen without judgement
- Listen without distraction
- Listen without seeking to fix
- Listen beyond their words- body language and tone
