Bulletproof Coffee
Have you heard of this? Bulletproof coffee has a few things going for it over your average coffee.
Do you drink coffee?
Recently, my husband has gotten into Bulletproof Coffee again.
I’m not a coffee drinker and am very sensitive to caffeine. So this is not my drink, but his. Bulletproof Coffee in the strictest sense is made with a mycotoxin-free coffee. Often, coffee beans can carry a lot of mold. The Bulletproof brand tests their coffee to make sure that there is no contamination.
Freshly brewed coffee is then mixed with good fats. This process of blending a coffee with good fats changes the way the caffeine impacts your body. Making it a gentler and a longer burning energy than caffeine typically is. Some people report they don’t feel jittery when they drink Bulletproof coffee.

That said, this shift in impact does not change my ability to consume it. I think it is important to be mindful when you are consistently using an external energy source, like caffeine, to prop you up throughout the day. Coffee is something to be used in moderation. But many people, my husband included, are not at all willing to give up their coffee. So, it can help to at least decrease its negative impacts.
I wanted to share with you my husband’s version of Bulletproof Coffee. This recipe can also be used in different ways. You can substitute coffee for tea or even hot chocolate. A colleague of mine has a beautiful recipe using turmeric, you can see it here.
Here is my husband’s version:
Blend together the following in a blender until frothy, about 20-30 seconds:
1 cup freshly brewed coffee using a ceramic cone or French press
1 Tablespoon MCT oil
1 Tablespoon Coconut oil
1 Tablespoon Grass-fed butter, unsalted
2 Tablespoons Collagen powder
Optional- heavy cream, avoid ultra-pasteurized
Remember, in general coffee is not always the best option. Be mindful of how often you feel tired. Focus on getting more sleep and eating better, but if you are going to have coffee or caffeine this is the way to do it.
I bet it’d be super yummy with a nice Earl Grey tea as well.
Enjoy!
