Benefits of Matcha

Me in Japan at 18
I was in Japan at my first tea ceremony, dressed in a kimono kneeling on a tatami mat, the first time I saw matcha being made.
My host-aunt scooped the vibrant green powder into a handmade bowl. With an elegant, refined grace she whisked it to a frothy foam and politely offered me the gift of tea.
I fell in love at first sip.
Its flavor was so complex and deep. Sweet, earthy, slightly bitter, sour, tangy, fresh, green, light, and bright, it danced across my palate.
My entire body, and even my mind felt lighter, and just like that, I was officially hooked on matcha.
This experience ignited a lifelong joy for all things matcha. I explored matcha tea, lattes, cookies, cakes, sushi, noodles, and even ice cream at every opportunity.
Matcha is more than just a delicious tea, it’s packed with numerous health benefits as well!
Research shows that matcha:
- Is a powerful antioxidant
- Boosts your metabolism
- Protects your nervous system
- Reduces stress
- Increases focus and attention
- Reduces oxidative damage
- Reduces risk and slows the growth of cancer
- Reduces depression
- Reduces insomnia
- Reduces anxiety
- Boosts your immunity
- Strengthens your cardiovascular system
- Reduces damage from Type 2 Diabetes
- Increases your HDL (aka good cholesterol)
- Reduces your LDL (aka bad cholesterol)
- Helps balance blood sugar
- Supports healthy liver and kidney function
…AND has more antioxidants than any other form of green tea.
Seriously, matcha is a nutritional rockstar!
Like all things, there are a lot of substandard matchas on the market. Some left me with a headache, feeling jittery, or nauseated. So I kept looking for the matcha that made me feel as amazing as that first sip.
And, I just found it again!
